Venedig ist eine Zumutung. Zu viel Schönheit, zu viel Tourismus, zu laut, zu viel von allem.
Auf den Kanälen und – bei Aqua Alta – sogar auf dem Markusplatz schwimmen ganz andere Bilder der Wasserstadt.
Diese monochromen Bilder sind ruhig und fast abstrakt. Auf dem graugrünen Wasser sind die auf dem Kopf stehenden Fassaden nicht immer leicht zu erkennen.
Water Colour
Venice is an imposition. Too much beauty, too much tourism, too noisy, too much
of everything.
On the canals and – in the case of Aqua Alta – even on St. Mark’s Square, pictures float that show a very different image of the water city.
These monochrome images are calm and almost abstract. The upside-down facades are not always easily recognizable on the gray-green water.

„I loved this series and you have done a good and tight edit. No images I would suggest taking out. Which is unusual for me. I am a curator and writer based in the UK so will offer that perspective on your work.
I had to really rack my brain to remember a photographer who had done a powerful series of images of reflections in water. It was Roni Horn nominated for the Deutshe Borse prize in 2000 and it was of the River Thames. Take a look it made a great book and show.
I knew this was Venice before I read it was. I liked that you did not say it upfront. I guess it was what I could see reflected, but it was also the colour. I have visited many times. It is great that the images are devoid of people. Works well. They are very painterly aswell, which I liked.“
